Circles – What are they?
A circle is the term used for a meeting of people who wish to develop their own potential as psychics or mediums. These meetings are held in Spiritualist Churches, some in meeting rooms or halls but generally would be in a quiet and peaceful room or building. You will find there usually is a set fee to cover the leader or mediums time and expertise. Those who run Circles are mediums that have developed their own abilities and wish to encourage others to look into the phenomena of spirit, and also want to train or guide others on the way to becoming good mediums.
Although there is a growing interest in this type of self development you may find it is still difficult to find a circle that suits you. For it is essential to a good circle that there is harmony between the sitters, I am sure you will know of groups and committees who cannot get anything constructive done because of one up man ship and tittle tattle.
One person can affect the whole harmony of a circle and being without that can create an unfavourable atmosphere. You may find you are invited to join a circle on a trial basis for this very reason. There is always a chance you will not see eye to eye with the leader within the group so a trial period is generally a good idea for all concerned.
The best place to enquire about these is at your local Spiritualist Church, or if you know a Medium in your area they will probably know of one or two. Occasionally circles are advertised in the local papers but you may find these are open circles which are usually a platform for novice mediums to practice their skills.
The circle would normally begin with a short meditation or relaxing visualisation exercise, this helps everyone relax, and focuses the mind on the work in hand.
From there on different circles vary a great deal, some leaders believe you should just sit quietly and wait patiently to see if anyone becomes aware of spirit people.
I remember one lady who came to see me after she had sat in a circle for three years and had never seen, felt or experienced anything, that lady was convinced she had no psychic ability. But after a few sessions with her she realised her psychic abilities were considerable, she had been sat in a circle which did not suit her, poor love, I am sure I would certainly have got bored and given up that group after the first few months! Sitting patiently may be right for some, but it is my belief that a few simple exercises (of the mind not the body) can help a great deal. These would consist of various ways to stretch the mind after all everyone has got psychic abilities to some degree or other, and these exercises can really help to awaken your own natural instincts.
Before you have attended such meetings you may be very nervous as I certainly was before my first experiences of circles, in fact I almost didn’t go to my first meeting because I was really apprehensive about what was going to occur. I have to report there were no chairs flying about the room or figures materializing before our eyes! I have mostly found circles to be very peaceful and harmonious meetings. If ever you come across one that disturbs you on any level then have a word with the circle leader, if your mind is not put at rest take it as a sign this is not the circle for you.
Of course it is not essential to sit in an organised circle for development, but the help and support of a leader is very helpful, and gives the motivation most of us need to apply ourselves. So if you have an interest in Psychic phenomena and wish to discover more a circle is the place for you.
